A while ago I started working on Future Gadget #16: Luminous Rhythm Emitter. This project aims to create a homemade open source penlight for concerts that can be controlled remotely. The project is based on a Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32C3. The original idea was to automate the switching of the colors, based on the song / artists colors during the concert. As a first step, I’ve worked on the case and the electronics for it. Once they are built, you can setup WLED on the ESP32 to remotely control the RGB LED of the penlight (as proof of concept).

Custom firmware will follow that allows us to set the color via Bluetooth. A smartphone app can then help to set the colors manually or automatically. Of course, an old school button to switch colors manually is also present.

If you’re interested in contributing to the project, feel free to contact me.
